Health Insurance

The Ross Preschool offers Health insurance benefits are offered to full-time, salaried, year-round employees. Hourly, school-year, and seasonal employees are not eligible for employer-sponsored health insurance. Benefit eligibility is based on position classification, not on hours worked in a particular week or month.

  • Employer Contribution: We cover 60% of the employee-only premium for the Kaiser Silver HMO plan.
  • Employee Contribution: Employees pay the remaining 40% of the employee premium and 100% of any dependent coverage.
  • Plan Options: Kaiser Silver (base plan), Kaiser Gold, and potentially Blue Shield Silver and Gold PPO plans (subject to availability).
  • Eligibility: Coverage begins on the first of the month following 60 days of continuous full-time employment.
  • Open Enrollment: Held annually (typically mid-October to mid-November).
  • Mid-Year Enrollment: Available following qualifying life events (such as loss of other coverage or a change in employment status).

A limited grandfathered exception exists for one long-standing hourly employee. This is a closed classification, and no additional employees will be added.

Vision Coverage

Vision benefits are offered through VSP and include coverage for eye exams, lenses, frames, contact lenses, and access to discounts on vision-related services and enhancements.

Dental Coverage

Dental coverage may be offered to full-time employees based on plan design. California law does not require employers to provide dental coverage, and eligibility rules may differ from those for medical coverage.

Retirement – 401(k) Plan

  • Employees become eligible at age 21 with 12 months of service.
  • All eligible W-2 employees may participate, regardless of full- or part-time status.
  • Contributions are made through payroll deduction only.
  • Employer contributions vest over a six-year graded schedule.
  • Enrollment and plan management are handled through Guideline.

Paid Time Off & School Closures

  • Full-time, year-round salaried employees receive approximately 7+ weeks of paid time off, aligned with the school calendar.
  • These dates are fixed and are not individually selectable. Hourly employees are paid only for hours worked and do not receive paid holidays or paid time off, unless otherwise required by law.

Paid Sick Leave

  • Sick leave begins accruing on the first day of employment at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per year.
  • Employees may begin using accrued sick leave after 90 days of employment.
  • Unused sick time carries over year to year, up to a maximum of 80 hours.
  • Sick leave may be used for personal illness, medical care, or family care, in accordance with California law.

Professional Development

We actively support ongoing learning and professional growth, including:

  • Tuition reimbursement for pre-approved early childhood education and child development coursework
  • Support for conferences and professional development opportunities
  • Required trainings are fully paid

Workers’ Compensation

All employees are covered under Workers’ Compensation insurance in accordance with California law.
